Wichita Mountains Charcoal Drawing
Students study Wichita Mountains of Southwest Oklahoma and learn the characteristics of its surface textures along with its vegetations such as cross timbers, tall grass, wildflowers, etc. Student also learn to use three- tone charcoal to differentiate the rocks, mountains, trees, grass, sky and fields and to practice elements and principles of design, composition (foreground, middle ground, and back ground), scales, framing, and color schemes. It is important to know what to draw and how to draw. Since this is an assignment to use a particular geographic place, students should accurately describe the components in the location with the compositional freedom.
