When using watercolor, keep it nice and fresh, don't overwash and leave the paper white for the highlights; when using oil pastel, mix the colors and don't be afraid to use heavily; when using tempera, work form the ground up and bigger shapes first then define more shapes. When painting it, don't try to mix the exact colors to match the pictures. And TAPED THE PAPER DOWN!!!
